I couldn't be happier about the invention of DVD. Especially since they started bringing out music videos on the dear format. I saw Dokken on this tour and I was extremely pleased with their set list. Including the resurgance of "Paris Is Burning". Reb shreds on that song and it sounded great. Well, then came the CD release of "Live from the Sun" and I thought, cool, I'll be able to enjoy the version over and over again. Only to find out that it was not on the CD. Well, lo and behold, it shows up on my DVD version of the live show. Play this baby through the Hi-Fi and get out the full 19" TV (or if you are a little more high tech like myself, I use my Technics 250 watt Digital Surround sound system and my Toshiba 32" TV). I was definitely in my glory. Classic live favorites like Tooth and Nail and Kiss of Death shake the walls of my stone Cape Cod. And if you don't happen to own your very own copy of Erase The Slate, and you thought you would just buy this DVD for the popular Dokken tunes like Alone Again, Breaking the Chains and In My Dreams, then you are in for a surprise when you see the performace of Erase the Slate and Maddest Hatter. I'm sure it will make you want to go out and buy the formentioned CD. When I first bought the DVD, I figured it would just be pretty much straight forward filming, maybe from different angles and maybe a few special effects. But this is actually a great production. With great special effects and wonderful camera work. Including a great idea to combine clips of the In My Dreams video (minus George's performance of course) with the live footage. Two great songs that kind of fell by the way side, Will the Sun Rise and Walk Away, are re-invented in a special Acoustic Performance (pre Jeff hair bob). And the interview segments bring the whole package together. You get a little more in-depth view from Jeff, Don, Mick and Reb. Talking a lot about the "Early Years". Thank God Digital recordings don't fade (will, if they do, certainly no where near as fast as analog). I'll be watching this one for a long time!
I rate this one a huge 10. Makes me want to see them again (real soon).
